Carlisle Cook WWII

Carlisle (Lisle) Cook was a pioneer farmer of the Beacon district.

He enlisted with the Australian Infantry Forces and sailed for Malaya. He was captured at the Fall of Singapore in 1941 and was a Prisoner of War of the Japanese until the end of the war.

As a returned serviceman Lisle was not permitted by the government to return to his old farm in the wheatbelt which he knew and loved. Instead, he was allocated a block of land at Frankland River.

Lisle’s sister Pansy married George Shemeld, another Beacon district pioneer.
